Our Story

Hi, I’m Andrew, co-founder of Coco & Rex.

For more than 20 years, I built and led a business centered on helping people prepare for the future. After selling what I'd spent more than two decades building, I decided it was time for a new project. A pet project, you might say.

That journey began with two French Bulldogs.

Rex was named after a former client who became one of my mentors and closest friends. After he passed away in 2019, naming my dog after him was my way of honoring someone who had such a profound impact on my life.

Growing up, my family always had Boston Terriers, so Rex’s black-and-white coloring pays tribute to the dogs I loved as a child.

Then came Coco.

She was named after Coco Chanel—a nod to her French heritage and timeless design. Her coloring was inspired by Stella, the French Bulldog from Modern Family, whose look I had always admired.

Coco and Rex aren’t just pets. They’re family.

I travel with them. I fly with them. They vacation with me. Whether we’re taking a weekend road trip or boarding a plane, they’re always by my side.

Coco & Rex is designed in Miami, inspired by the way we actually live, travel, and spend time with our dogs.

Those experiences taught me something.

Too many pet products feel like an afterthought. They’re designed to be sold—not necessarily to make life easier for dogs and the people who love them.

I wanted to create something different.

A brand built on quality, purposeful design, and products that solve real problems because they’ve been inspired by real life.

That’s why we created Coco & Rex.

Thoughtfully designed for dogs.

Not because it sounds good—but because it’s the standard we hold ourselves to every single day.

Every product begins with one simple question:

Would I trust this with Coco and Rex?

If the answer isn’t yes, we keep improving it.

My years in business taught me that lasting companies are built on trust, attention to detail, and taking care of customers. Those same principles guide every decision we make.

Thank you for supporting our small business and for trusting us with your best friend.

Welcome to the Coco & Rex family.

Co-Founder

Some partnerships begin with a business plan.

Ours began with a friendship.

Carl and Andrew go back more than twenty years, to when they were first building their careers. What began as a professional relationship grew into one of the most meaningful friendships of Andrew’s life. Over the years, Carl became more than a mentor — he became the big brother Andrew never had.

With decades of experience in finance and customer service, Carl built his career on trust, integrity, and helping people make important decisions. Those same values are at the heart of Coco & Rex.

Originally from Hawaii and now based in the Midwest, Carl is a seasoned traveler who has explored extensively throughout Europe and Asia while also traveling frequently across the United States. Years of frequent travel have given him a firsthand understanding of what makes a journey easier, more organized, and more enjoyable — and how much the little details matter. That perspective is especially valuable at Coco & Rex as we design products for people who want to experience the world with their dogs by their side.

His love of travel is matched by a lifelong love of dogs — from Knight, the unforgettable black Labrador known for his intelligence, to Addie, the lovable Shih Tzu, and Cooper and Cassie, the two rambunctious beagles who are part of his family today.

Carl is also known for a piece of advice that has become part of the culture at Coco & Rex:

“You can never take back a word, but you can always add one later. And never miss a good opportunity to shut up.”

When Andrew and Carl began building Coco & Rex, doing it together felt natural — the result of more than two decades of friendship, trust, and a shared belief that dogs deserve better.

Today, Carl works alongside Andrew as Co-Founder, helping build a company dedicated to one simple promise:

Thoughtfully designed for dogs.
